Hi just researching best way to back fill Fire rated pressed metal door in precast concrete
Was looking at using grout and group pump
Any heads up or good ideas

      Hello Alastair,
Yes, using grout and a grout pump is a common option used to back fill fire rated door frames. The main thing to ensure is that the opening is fully sealed off before backfilling, and that all possible air gaps are filled.
      Hope this helps!

How do you backfill an existing -/120/30 rated steel door frame & door in a plaster wall.

        Hello Neville,
        Thanks for your question.
We haven’t heard of this being done before, because any form of liquid backfill will pour through the holes in the studs and fill the wall cavity.
You may have no option but to remove the frame and backfill, and then install it back into the opening.
        Hope this helps.

Hi, Is fire rated expanding foam an acceptable method of backfilling an existing fire door jamb in timber frame construction?

    • Surefab Admin Post authorReply

      Hello Daniel,
It depends on the brand of door you are using. If you are using a fire core door, fire foam has not been certified for use for backfilling the jamb. The approved backfill options are fire grade plasterboard, mortar, cement grout or LAF Vermitex TH. I hope this helps.

      Hello Tom,
At this stage there are no fire rated expander foams that have been approved for use with Firecore door sets.
The approved backfill options are fire grade plasterboard, mortar, cement grout or LAF Vermitex TH.
